About Me
February 22, 2010Hi, my name is Maria. I grew up on a farm in rural Iowa. My three loves in life are my amazing, funny husband Frank, my daughter Audrey, and photography.
When I was small, my mom would let me play with my grandfather’s old “Brownie” camera. By the time I was 13, I had requested a 35mm camera of my own (plus LOTS of books to learn), and knew I wanted to be a photographer.
I majored in photography at college (small, medium, large format) during the age of “film”. After college, I detoured into technology for about 10 years before realizing I missed having the passion and energy I felt when shooting photos and working in a darkroom.
Even though I’ve “graduated” to pro equipment, I still have my grandfathers “Brownie” and my dad’s “Land Camera” as part of my hobby equipment!
Photographs tell a story. They capture the emotions, document our lives, and act as a permanent memory that strengthens the bond in relationships.
I believe that photographs should reflect our lives: comfortable, not always matching or clean-cut, and showing everyday life as it happens…
