This weekend, I headed to Austin for a backyard wedding that was truly stunning! Lacy & Mitch were high school sweethearts, and I was honored to do their engagement photos last year, Lacy’s bridal photos in January, and now their wedding. We got into town on Friday and headed out to Lacy’s parents house for the rehearsal dinner. This wedding was full of personal touches… from the parents who cooked the rehearsal dinner and wedding meal themselves, the long-time family friend who came from Iowa to be their wedding minister (Leah Haldy, who was phenomenal), and all of the family and loved ones who contributed everything they could to help pull together a very elegant country affair.
Lacy’s family lives on 250 acres in the hill country, and we were all worried about the possibility of rain, both for the wedding and for the formal photos between the ceremony and reception. On Friday evening, Lacy took me to a couple spots she had been thinking of where we could do the bridal party photos. She has a great eye and picked an awesome location full of contrast! Immediately, I got an idea in mind and was eager to execute the following day.
The wedding itself was simply stunning! From the natural use of brush to form an arch over the ceremony spot, to the galvanized buckets filled with white daisies (with hints of blue and green filler) hanging on shepherd’s hooks down the aisle, to the small white lights that were strung throughout the backyard, to the table centerpieces of wheat surrounded by candles and stones with inspirational words written on them like “love”, “faith” and “cherish”…. the entire evening was full of the joy and love that should be present during wedding festivities.
To Lacy & Mitch: Thank you for choosing me to share in the journey you started over a year ago, for trusting that the end result would be worth being asked to jump fences or hang over balconies or climb trees to capture the “perfect” image, and for allowing me to witness such an amazing moment in your lives and share in your family’s joy.
